Do You Live With a Lot of Background Noise?

Does your life seem hectic and noisy?

Do distractions seem to rule your day?

Do you wish you could find some inner quiet?

I think that our world in general is becoming noisier and more hectic at every moment. Many of us have a sense that life is speeding up to warp speed. It seems as if we are being asked to do much more in much less time and things seem to pile up incessantly.

Too much going on creates a consistent level of stress that affects our physical, emotional and mental well being. We all want to feel relaxed, inspired and focused.

So how can we make more room in our lives? How can we reduce the noise and have some kind of inner break, to take a breath between activities?

Perhaps the best thing we can do is to examine where the noise is coming from in order to get a clearer picture of what is actually happening.

So let’s look at your habits for some clues:

  1. Do you watch or listen to the news many times a day?
  2. Do you leave the radio or TV on when you’re not listening or watching?
  3. Do you answer the phone when you aren’t really available?
  4. Do check your emails every few minutes?

If you’ve have answered “yes” to any of these, you may want to consider creating a little more order in your life by sifting out some of the unneeded things going on around you.

Create a schedule that will serve to filter out some of the noise. Schedule set times to do emails, say twice or three times a day for half an hour each.

Unless you are really available, don’t answer your phone (this includes cell phones too!). Caller ID is a wonderful thing and you can always call back when you are free.

Create a To Do list that is reasonable and easy to adhere to, taking into account that there will be modifications as the day progresses. It’s important to have your tasks listed so that you can rely on the list and release yourself from having to remember those details.

Use a diary to record all appointments so that you don’t have to rely on your memory. This serves to free you up even more.

Finally, pencil in pre-planned QUIET TIME in your daily schedule. This will serve to help you EMPTY OUT much of the mental chatter and clutter. Just thinking of my quiet time induces a big cleansing breath!
